Ahupuaʻa Coordinator
LOCATION: Kīholo Bay and Puʻuwaʻawaʻa, Kona, Hawaiʻi
HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week, funding secured through 2027
PAY RATE: $25-$28 per hour based on experience

SUMMARY
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Coordinator to join our Education team. This role involves working closely with our Cultural Director and Director of Finance and Operations to lead and support enriching activities across the ahupuaʻa of Puʻuwaʻawaʻa and Puʻuanahulu. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of culture, history, science, and the ability to communicate effectively with the local community.
ORGANIZATION
Hui Aloha Kīholo is a Native Hawaiian Organization founded in 2007 to lead stewardship, education, and conservation programs at Kīholo State Park. Our mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance the cultural and natural landscape of the Kīholo Bay area through collaborative management and active community stewardship. We accomplish our mission through collaborative partnerships with government, businesses, research institutions, and schools, non-profit organizations, and our active community. Our vision is a thriving cultural and natural landscape inspiring a pono connection between people and place.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Co-develop and deliver educational programs focused on regional lessons of adaptation, resilience, sustainability, farming, fishing, governance, conservation, stewardship, and convergent science
Lead groups of students, teachers, and community members in outdoor learning experiences
Collaborate with local partners, schools, kamaʻāina families, and community members to align content and support related education activities
Work closely with native Hawaiian knowledge holders to develop educational content and activities
Develop and share displays and materials in digital and in-person settings
Manage waivers, photos, field data, and documents appropriately, including sensitive information
TRAVEL REQUIRED
Occasional travel within North Kona region may be required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 4 years professional experience working in K-12 education with native Hawaiian communities, OR
Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years work experience in Hawaiian Studies, Education, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Communications, or a related field.
Experience leading educational activities in an outdoor or community setting
Experience developing education content to support learning activities
Ability to adapt lessons and deliver information to engage different age groups and learning style
U.S. Citizenship
Valid State Driver’s License
Able to lift 25lbs
Able to walk on uneven terrain outdoors for up to 2 miles
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiar with Kīholo, Puʻuwaʻawaʻa, and local ecosystems
Knowledge of local history and culture
Ability to communicate in pidgin English, American English, and Hawaiian
Familiar with plants and animals in Hawaiʻi
Familiar with water resources in Hawaiʻi
Able to develop educational websites, social media posts
Able to develop worksheets, workbooks, and handouts
Familiar with online file sharing and storage systems
Familiar with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat, and graphic design software
